Silk-screen decoration Silk- screen decoration is a type of screen printing when the imprint is received by forcing paint through on printed material by stripper through stencil applied to a special net. Process of screen printing is quite easy from the technological point of view. Method of forcing paint through silk net with drawing applied was first used in ancient China. At that time people learned to create first printing images.
Screen printing is probably the most available method. Now the market provides a great variety of products printed by silk-screen printing. Equipment for silk-screen printing allows to print on every type and shape of material with high circulation. There is no universal method of printing rather than silk-screen printing. It provides high quality, water-resistant, bright colors, glossy or matte, gold, silver, white (on black paper) printing. Silk-screen printing offers great opportunities. Some of printing works cannot be done by any other method.
Special emulsion is applied on wooden frame with strained “silk” and dried. Then film assembly (film with printed black - and - white picture) is placed on the frame and exposed under special lamp. After flash exposure the frame is washed by water and dried. So we get a printing matrix on the frame. Fix the matrix in silk-screen machine, pour some paint and press it by special stripper on the printed product.
Screening technique is used to print monochromatic, white- and- black photo or halftone picture by silk-screen printing. You can understand what raster is by looking at photos in black- and-white paper. The whole photo consists of black small and large dots. No smooth transition, shades of grey and black color only. But this is close inspection while in distance the photo seems to be normal. This is what the raster is.
To print photo by silk-screen printing method you should use screening technique. In silk-screen printing 10-100 lpi (lines per inch) rasters are used. The more they are used the better the quality of the image is.
For printing of full color images special paint for CMYK printing is used. Paints for full color printing should be semitransparent. As a result of paint application new colors and shades appear. Transparency of paint is vital to achieve a good result.
Let’s summarize advantages of silk-screen printing:
1. Process simplicity
2. Equipment available at low price
3. Printing on materials of various types
4. Significant thickness of applied paint and specific silk-screen printing color brightness
5. Durability of printed materials
6. Resistance to external effects
7. Expense reduction while printing small and average editions
8. Special resolutions which are impossible to make by other methods of printing, the best coverage at equal value.
Silk- screen printing is applicable to many fields. This technology is useful and at the same time is very simple. Besides billboards and posters opportunities of silk-screen printing in outdoor advertising cover POS materials, design of shop windows, various large format graphics of supermarkets, light boxes, signs and a great amount of promotion items which can be related to outdoor advertising as well (T-shirts, working clothes, plastic and paper bags, etc.).
